Sadabahar is spotted in gardens, parks and roadsides across India.
It’s so prevalent that it has earned an array of local names in India:
Sadabahar, Baramasi, Nayantara, Sadafuli and Nithyakalyani.
However, interestingly, it isn't actually Indian.
Catharanthus roseus or Periwinkle is native to Madagascar.
Wild periwinkle naturally blooms in soft pink, but decades of breeding have produced its flowers in 10+ colour groups. The plant also contains 400+ naturally occurring alkaloids, many used in modern medicine.
Barely noticed. Hardy, abundant and flowering through much of the year – the flower became simply Sadabahar: “ever-blooming.”
